Championship Sunday- Recap

Public B

#1 Chatham 7 vs #11 Middletown South 3

Chatham was too much to handle for this Middletown South team. Danny Casey led the way with a natural hat trick in the 2nd period. The other part of the duo Alex Rauter also played a key role adding 2 goals and 2 assists. This game seemed out of reach going into the 3rd period when the game was 6-0 Chatham. Middletown South did notch 3 in the 3rd, all their goals coming from 3 different scorers.

Public A

#1 Randolph 1 vs #3 Montgomery 0

This game was much more boring to watch. The game however was tilted as Montgomery was heavily out shot by almost 4 to 1. Montgomery's goalie Zach Schiavo stood on his head, keeping his team in it. But finally Randolph struck and netted a rebound goal, and it would remain that way for the rest of the contest. Jeff Garinger stood out every time he touched the puck. Randolph has 4 championships in the past 6 seasons, 06', 07', 09', 11'.

Private

#1 Delbarton 3 vs #2 St. Augustine 2 OT

I think almost everyone in the building thought that Delbarton would win this game no problem, but it wouldn't be that easy. It sure was a slow start but when Roman Ammirato of St. Augustine sniped one off the clean draw win from freshman Anthony Saderio, it changed the game. A minute and a half later Ammirato skates through a few Delbarton players and makes a beautiful pass to Saderio for the go ahead goal. In the following minutes senior captain Matt Killian showed why he is an A ranked NHL prospect and lead a rush that led into his game-tying goal. In overtime the pressure was on with every shot. Peter McMullen would bury his second goal of the game on a great play to win Delbarton's 4th title in a row.

In conclusion the championships were a success. I would like to see an overall Public champion, and maybe even a 2 out 3 series for the private championship. The selection commitee did a good job picking the teams being that every #1 seed won this year, and for private it was #1 vs #2.

This week I will post my final rankings, as well as my all-state picks. Congrats to all the winners on a great season!
