State Rankings Top 10 Overall

Pre-Season Rankings

1. Delbarton- =(10) 2-time defending champ. Stacked again this year, don't see anyone else on there level.

2. Bergen Catholic- =(9)- Has a lot of skilled players, can compete with all teams.

3. CBA- =(9)- Defense first with this team. Has talent to be back in finals again this year.

4. Bishop Eustace- =(9)- Lost a few guys to Juniors and AAA. Still have guys that can burry the puck a lot.

5. Don Bosco- =(9)-Got better this year, Older team that will battle with all teams they play.

6. Morristown-Beard =(9)- Got stronger from last year. Will compete with all Gordon teams. Only thing that hurts them is they dont play Gordon Schedule.

7. Gloucester Catholic =(9)- Lost a few key players to last years team, but still has some star players to carry them.

8. Ramsey =(9)-Just as good as last year. Basically just age a year, can play with a lot of the Privates, and all publics.

9. Seton Hall- =(8)- Been going down over the years. Has a bunch of solid players, and a great goalie , which is why they are ranked this high up.

10. Montgomery- =(8)- Will run the Skylands divison, very tough team this year. State run is very possible.

A few on the Bubble

Randolph- =(8)- Would be ranked in top ten, but lose of goalie Dan Fullam, is huge. Will recover though.

Chatam- =(8)- Going to be a very good team this year. Can score a lot of goals.

St. Augustine- =(8)- Has a bunch of skilled players. They have to prove themselve this year. After coming off a very weak season.

The Number after each of the teams name is what i think how good each team is out of 10. So in other words, any team ranked 8 is on the same level as an 8, and a 9 should beat an 8...etc.

North Jersey High School Hockey Preview

These Rankings are not state-wide Ranks just North Jersey(What The Record covers)

1. Bergen Catholic (Gordon American)-
The most skilled team in the area. They have a new coach in Kevin Mulligan. This team can make a real state championship run. They have a bunch of players who play on some high end AAA, and Jr teams and we will see if conflicts effect them.
Players to Watch: Carlo DiPiazza- Recently joined team after playing with New Jersey Rockets Jr. A team, Justin Selman- Averaging 1.71 PPG at the 16uAAA National Level, Adam Apidopoulos, and Kyle Garlasco will also be impact players. Watch for Seniors Mike Janson, Nick Maniaci and junior Ryan Melvin to be big threats from the blue line. James Wrightson will anchor the team in the net.

2. Don Bosco (Gordon National)- Has a handful of very talented players. They will a top 10 team in the state. They will a top team in the Lower Gordon level. Watch out for them on any given night to pull an upset. Travel conflicts may effect this team as well.
Players to Watch- Connor Leen-will be there go to guy, Connor was leading the Jersey Hitmen Jr.B sqaud in points having a 7 goals and 23 pts in 14 games before the call up to the Jr.A level. R.J. Burns- He is also having a great year on the Jr. B Hitmen, he will be one of there top guys. Mike Conte and Tyler Stephanik will be threats to score. Senior Dan Wostbrock can prove himself this year as a top goalie in the area.

3. Northern Highlands (NBIL A)- Has 2 very good lines of offense. That is there game, and they do it very well. If they keep the puck out of the net this team can go very far in states.
Players to Watch- Pat Erstling and John Hite- Will have another dominate year. They both play together on the New Jersey Colonials 18uAAA team. Steve Milanesi and Casey Murdoch also play together on the New York Saints Jr.B team. Murdoch leads the team in points.

4. Ramsey (NBIL A)- Coming off a Public B state championship the expectations for the team are the same. Loosing top offensive player and captain John Rainey will hurt them. Ramsey only lost 2 other Seniors.
Players to Watch- Tyler Bishop- A very dynamic player. Plays both offense and defense for the Rams, and will be there top goal scorer. Mike Gwon- Will anchor the squad on Defense, He's one of the top defensemen in the area, and will also rack up the Points. Scott Rothlisberger- will also play a key role in Ramsey's defensive minded game. Matt Braun- Completes the team in net, he is also having a very good season with the Jr.B Hitmen, and was a 17u Festival All-Star over the summer.

5. Glen Rock (NBIL A)-This team has a good balance between offense and defense. If team plays there game right they will have a good chance to go far in states. A very tough team to play. Loosing All-State player Chris Staines, who is know with New York Applecore Jr.A is huge.
Players to Watch- Jim Kinney- This player is very talented offensively, and can change the score of a game very quickly. Jake Thoubboron- in net is young and very talented, He plays on the North Jersey Avalanche 16uAAA National team and has a G.A.A. of 1.57 which leads the entire league. Greg Andrake- will be with kinney adding a good amount of offense to the team.

6. Ramapo (NBIL A)- I always like to compare this team to Ramsey, but a little weaker. Not as strong defense, but a little more offense. They play each other in their first game of the year on December 4th.
Players to Watch- Carl Boomhower- Is one of the top goaltenders in the area. He will carry this team to a lot of wins. Ken Maguire- Is a very solid defensemen, and key player to this teams strategy. Austin Johnson, Robbie Marra, and Jeremy Roberts- will be the top offensive guys and will do a lot of their Scoring.

7.Kinnelon (Mennen)- After being in the state Finals for the past two years, this team still wants it, but it will be tougher then previous years. They still have some good players, that can take them their.
Players to Watch- Mike Crampton- Very dynamic in his play, can light the lamp at will. Not playing with anyone at his level like he had last season though. Billy Huber- A very solid defenseman with loads of experience, will add more offense this season. If Jeff Molner plays they will go deep again.

8.Lakeland (Tri-P)- This team has bunch of seniors to carry them. They are deep offensively. Not loosing many seniors, but gaining experience.
Players to Watch- Andrew Niedzwicki- He is their go to player. He will be a big part of this team, and a threat to score at any time. Rory Specia- a tough player to go against, is a big scoring punch. Bobby Kronyak- A sophomore that a great Freshman year. He will be a top guy on the team this year

9. Mahwah (NBIL B)- A young and solid team. They will only improve this season. They played very tough games with the top teams in the league last season. Don't take this team lightly. Solid all-around.
Players to Watch- Luke May- A freshman, but will most likely be their leading scoring, has loads of skill. Ryan Magner- A tough player, that will put the puck in the back of the net consistently. Dan Carabin- Their top defenseman, has ability to coast puck, will put up some numbers this year.

10. Paramus (Tri-H/B)- Paramus is going to have a turn-around season. Have 11 seniors on the team, 6 being defensemen, so the experience is there. New goalie in net, if the Spartans keep the puck out of the net, they will win a load of games.
Players to Watch- Joe Doughty- A big part of the Spartans, apart on almost all of their goals last season. Jake Rizer- Senior Captain and defensemen, will add an offensive punch. Dylan Rizer- A big freshman that has a lot of potential to rack it up this year.

The Rest (No Specific Order)

Fair Lawn (Tri-H/B)-
Needs to start a defensive mentality. They can get away with some of the games due the bottom teams in the league. Some skill is there, just needs to be put into use.
Players to Watch- Tyler Novielli- Very skilled player that has all the tools, but no one on his level to play with. He will be most of there scoring. Jeff frenkel- Good all-around defensemen, that will rack up some points this season. These two players will be out there 90% of the time. This is good in the benefit that they are good players, but bad in the fact that players get tired.

Hackensack (Tri-H/B)-
Curious to see how this team will do against some better teams in their league, such as Paramus, Ridgewood, and St. Joes. Their's skill there.
Players to Watch- Jack Marut- one of their top players, has skill and some players to play with, can do some damage. Chris Ottstadt- Senior Captain that can put the puck in the back of the net.

Ridgewood (Tri-H/B)- Team has a bunch of players that can score. Plays Paramus in First game of season. Will be good game. I've heard their defensemen may have injuries as of now. Which means other players will have to step up.
Players to Watch- Kevin Entwistle- Transfer from Bergen Catholic. Has skill to score, will lead Ridgewood in scoring. Ralph Volpe- Good defensemen, that likes to carry the puck up. Has ability to score a bunch this season. Peter McGuinley- Sophomore that can score goals this season. Watch for him to step up this season.

St. Joes (Tri-H/B)- Lost a bunch of their top scorers this year. Curious to see if they bounce back. Have skill to win league, lets see if they can put it together.
Players to Watch- Danny Margulies- Small, but a skilled forward that will lead the St. Joes in scoring. James Peer- Sophomore defensemen has skill, and could be a top defensemen in the league. Joe Gagliardo- Senior Forward, big kid that can put the puck in the back of the net. Watch for Margulies and Gagliardo to get together for a bunch of goals this season.

Clifton (Tri-P)- Has solid Offense and defense. Can beat any team on any night. Watch out for them. Has potential to be a top team.
Players to Watch- Matt Whitford- has skill, and will be their leading scoring. Brian Yip- will rack up the points this year. Watch out for these two players.

Wayne Hills (Tri-P)- Physical team, that scraps for most of there goals they can get some wins in this division. Still in rebuilding years.
Players to Watch- Josh Wienstein- Solid Goalie that will keep the patriots in many games. Its on the rest of the squad to put the other team away.

Wayne Valley (Tri-P)- WV is going to have find some more scoring. Lost a few guys that put the puck in the net for them last year. Defense can win this team games.
Players to Watch- Nate Kholodenko- Good goalie, will be tested a lot this year. Has been facing good competition at the 16uAAA National Level.

West Milford (Tri-P)- Solid team. Has loads of Offense. Many players that can score goals. Defense may be this teams weakness.
Players to Watch- Colin MacDonald- Coming off a huge season, being one of the states leading scorers. Watch him to do it again. Conrad Weiss and Josh McCan- Will add to the offensive punch.

Paramus Catholic (NBIL A)- Lost a lot of their scoring and their starting goalie. The Paladins are young. This is definitely a rebuilding year for Pc.

Tenafly (NBIL A)- This is a solid team, playing in a very tough division. Tenafly is have a tough time for wins against the big opponents but wont be push overs. Very young team.
Players to Watch- Scott Allen- Recently moved back to defense as of this season. Plays with the Empire Jr. B Jersey Wildcats. Matt Ceballos- Taking over as goalie, Ceballos shouldn't have a problem with the adjustment. A lot of young players can score goals.

Demerest (NBIL B)- Not to strong as a team. They will have win games by low margins. They will keep the puck out of net.

Old Tappan (NBIL B)- As Old Tappan enters a season with a full schedule, lets see what they can do.They have some skill, and will be improved from last season
