Private/Public- A lot of change this week in both of the top tens, and I can see a lot more change coming for next week too. There are several big tournament games going on this week. The surprise teams of the week are, Don Bosco, and Ridge. Don Bosco is currently on a 4 game winning streak, and are coming over two big wins over Red Bank Catholic, and rival Bergen Catholic. Ridge on the other hand is still cruising along, but is faced with some tough games this week.

This week's games to watch:
12/27/10 #2 Morris Knolls vs #3 Don Bosco at 7:00 at the Ice Vault GAME WAS PPD
12/28/10 #6 Ridge vs #7 Howell at 7:55 at Bridgewater

Holiday Tournaments

Ice Vault Holiday Classic
(Dec. 21st-3oth)

The favorite team here definitely has to be Don Bosco. They will be challenged, and possibly upset when they play arguably the best public school in the state, Morris Knolls on Monday night.
My Pick: Don Bosco

Jefferson Tournament (Dec. 27th-30th)

This is probably the best overall tournament. Everyone of these games will be good ones. I'm curious to see how Ridgewood will do against better competition.
My Pick: Chatham

Montclair Holiday Invite (Dec. 26th-30th)

There are six teams from 4 different leagues, this tournament should give a good idea of how other leagues compare against each other.
My Pick: Montclair

South Mountain Invite (Dec. 26th-30th)

I really would like to see Verona vs Mountain Lakes in the finals here. Their 8-8 tie last week, was really a battle. Both teams are on the bubble for making the top 10, and this tournament could prove something.
My Pick: Mountain Lakes

Bridgewater Tournament (Dec. 27th-30th)

The best games in this tournament will be in the first two rounds. This is because Ridge plays Howell, and Middletown South plays Roxbury in the first round, and all four teams are on the same side of the bracket.
My Pick
: Middletown South

Winding River Holiday Tournament (Dec. 27th-30th)

A two division tournament that consists of all shore teams. Division A consists of two top ten public teams. The game to watch is Brick Township vs Toms River South.
My Pick: Toms River South

Passaic County Tournament (Dec. 27th-30th)

One of the most popular tournaments in the state. May not be the best, but Floyd Hall Arena is always packed for these games. Wayne Valley has the #1 rank and a bye into the second round, lets see what they can do with it.
My Pick: Depaul Catholic

Bayonne Tournament

A small 4 team tournament. All games will be played at Bayonne high school's rink.
My Pick: Bayonne
Sussex Cup (Dec.26th, Dec. 30th)

An Annual tournament that consists of 4 teams. Sparta has held the cup for the past 3 years.
My Pick: Sparta

Charles H. Housley Classic

All 4 of these teams play in the North conferences. All games will be played at the Ice House in Hackensack.
My Pick: Pascack Valley

Hamilton Hornet Holiday Invite (Dec. 26th-30th)
A 3 game round robin tournament that consists of 6 teams. A championship game at Lawrenceville Prep should be a fun one.
My Pick: Jackson Memorial

Welcome to the new blog

Dear Readers,
Welcome to the new John Covello's New Jersey Hockey Blog. Over the past few days I have been doing some major renovations to the site. The main goal is to update the site daily, and make it more interesting. The two main posts that I will start out with, will be High School Hockey Rankings on Mondays, and 18uAAA/16uAAA Rankings on Thursdays. The next weekly post I plan to add will be rankings for the Empire Junior Hockey League (EmJHL). I also will post the teams, results and other news about upcoming top level tournaments and showcases.  If you would like to have anything else covered or have any ideas please send me an email at jcovello77@yahoo.com. I will continue to post on the NJ.com forums when a new post is up on the blog. I hope you all enjoy the new changes and the upcoming posts.

Sincerely,
John Covello

4. Brick Township (1-0-0)
5. Middletown South (1-0-1)

7. Toms River South (1-0-0)
8. Hillsborough (2-0-0)
9. Mountain Lakes (1-0-0)
10. Ridgewood (2-0-0)

Private- The top 7 teams seem to be a step-a-head of the rest of the other private schools. I'm still waiting to see what St. Augustine can do. Bergen Catholic seems to be the biggest surprise. They had a great win over Don Bosco, and a good game against Delbarton. Delbarton is once again the clear cut #1.

Public- The top 6 teams are very strong. Anyone of those schools can be a #1 ranked team somewhere down the road, but as of right now it is Randolph and Morris Knolls tied on top. Middletown South had a great tie against private power CBA. Hillsborough and Mountain Lakes are the surprises. They both seem to be strong and have a lot of firepower.
